Profiling, Projection & Dharma

Yes, Tyler Perry. Racial profiling shoud be investigated as a hate crime. As a spiritual activist, what jumped out at me was the oddly inappropriate, yet telling question the white police asked...and repeated: "What's wrong with you?"

I have observed that the ego/pain-body/narcissist speaks auobiographically. It projects. What it finds most terrifying about its skewed self-image it tries to spla...t on "the other" like cooties.

I see the recent upsurge of racism, misogyny, homophobia and anti-intellectualism to be the last gasp of the old paradigm patriarchal, ego dominated age. The light is shining on it, so it's behaving extra badly in its own nightmare. It's kicking and screaming, feeling the threat to its imaginary existence, like a 2 year old having a tantrum and in the process of exhausting itself.

The dharma of every toddler is to grow up and the dharma of humankind is enlightenment. God bless us, every one!

Pizza Steak & Compassion

Last night I enjoyed a very Mid-Atlantic dinner and (what turned out to be) food for thought. One of my two conversational companions said she found "30 Rock" obnoxious. Since this is one of my very favorite shows, and since I so respect this person's taste and discernment, her comment piqued my interest. As we moved on to other topics, some part of my mind continued chewing on this notion and I took it home, along with half of my styrofoam-boxed pizza steak.

I will not presume to know why she finds the show irritating, but I asked myself why I might find it so. And why was I not seeing the source of my own irritation? It came to me, by the time I arrived at home. I am a Pennsylginian. I have strong ties to the The Mid-Atlantic region, where I grew up and lived from ages 6 to 34. And I live in, spent my early, most formative years in, learned to speak in...Southwestern Virginia.

I lost my accent when we moved north, but I maintained such a love for the region that I moved back as a young mother. I travel, and I've spent chunks of time away from here, but this is where I have spent most of my adult life, and this is home to me.

I realized, I actually do find the perpetuation of the rural Southern stereotype obnoxious! I think the Kenneth character is funny, and I realize that humor often plays with stereotype. However, outside of my conscious awareness, I have felt uncomfortable with some of the material. And I do find it interesting that Tracey Morgan's character has a two-man entourage of erudite, well-read African-American men to balance his buffoonery.

I know there are conservatives who hate the show, but I'm not inviting ideological controversy here. 30 Rock's writers are consciously expressing a politcal perspective, just as Fox news does, and people are free to watch what they like. What I do find interesting is how we filter out our own discomfort when perpetuation of stereotypes occurs, even sometimes, when it is our own heritage that is being slammed. My Pennsyl says "I'm sorry" to my Ginian.

I look forward to eating my Mid-Atlantic lunch, sitting on my deck in the sun, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains I love so much. Later, I'll get on the phone and work with a Pennsylvania client to help her pass a test. One world; no "other."

We are all learning this, and sooner or later, we will all pass all our tests, and having let gone of regional and all other temporal identifications, we will only identify with Source. Until then, may we laugh at ourselves...but kindly, with empathy and compassion. And may the taste of love be delicious in our mouths and minds!

Peaceful Blessings,
Kanta

"Something the Lord Made": Spiritual Heart Surgery, Mind Movies and You

I have always loved movies, especially really, really good ones. Years ago, I co-wrote and illustrated a film review column called “The Screenheads.” It was fun seeing flicks on the newspaper’s dime and then chewing it over afterwards with my writing partner.

The lingering taste continued to delight and excite when all the forms of expression that comprise filmmaking came together in satyagraha. Soul truth gives us satisfaction. It feeds us, nourishes us, and arouses our joy. It offers us something we are ready to stretch into. It excites our learning centers and the very cells of our body and brain say “Yes!” It reminds us of who we areally are, what we're capable of and (even when circumstances and people may seem to oppose us) how supported we really are. It helps us remember that Soul truth allows soul force to flow and soul force cannot be stopped, not merely because it has "more power," but because it is the only power that is real, lasting and eternal. It helps us remember that when we align with the truth of who we are, we attract this and invite it to be the operant force in our lives, our lives are transformed.

I love the scenes when Thomas's wife recognizes that her husband's highest good is to return to his right work....when Thomas tells Blaylock that he's returning not for Blaylock, but for the work...when Blaylock expresses, as best he can regret, creating peace in the relationship with Thomas. Deepening and underscoring that, I love how Blaylock conveys the pre-transition personal inventory that he's doing as part of his own internal peace process. As we feel the painful poignancy of his struggles, we also celebrate his soul growth. We can easily see that he is launching himself on a whole new journey. We want to cheer for him just as we do for Thomas and for the doctors and med school profs who ultimately honored Thomas. There is something magical about such scenes. They touch our hearts. They do heart spiritual surgery, restoring the flow!

Though “Something the Lord Made” was released in 2004, I think it speaks eloquently to present concerns, reaching into the deepest shadow places we now see so clearly dramatized in the public arena. Vivien Thomas’s overcoming story shows him overcoming Old Paradigm attempts to marginalize him, not only as a black man but as a self-taught human being.

Thomas’s brilliance, diligent study and intuitive gifts changed our world and these very actions annoyed and outraged the medical old boys, who clung to their limited thinking as tightly as they did to their degrees, pedigrees and club memberships, metaphorical and otherwise.

Those who could not prevent him from offering his gifts took credit for his success. When his colleagues ultimately accept, celebrate and honor him for his immense contribution to medicine, we get to experience the demonstration of Higher Truth in action.

Because greed, racism, misogyny, homophobia and intellectual elitism are all part of the same nightmarish notion of separation from Source, true awakening from one results in freedom from the rest. We are not of value because of our circumstances, but because we are, and when we are who we are, we are brilliant, beautiful, and expressive of that which “The Lord Made” in us and AS us.

You are “Something the Lord Made.” Regardless of your color, gender, sexual preference, educational background, economic condition, and personal history. You were made to shine. You were made to demonstrate. You were made to inspire. You are the writer, the director and star of your movie, and the owner of your own screening environment. May your story unfold in ways that delight you and others. May you demonstrate the overcoming of your illusory limitations. And may your popcorn be fresh and just salty enough!

Satya and the Shadow

The word "satya" means Truth, with a capital T. How do we express our hopes and dreams of peace peacefully? To speak or not to speak? From what part of ourselves are we expressing? Our rage? Our compassion? From belief in separation and struggle? From love and trust in the process of life?

Yes; speak the truth, for it must be spoken and not to speak it is unconscionable now. The feminine must be honored. Gaia must be protected. Gays must be respected and accorded their rights. There must be protections in place for seniors and the sick. The patriarchy must end. Economics must become honorable and service-oriented. Speak the truth with compassion and not contempt. What we are seeing is the collective Pain-Body expressing itself. We are seeing an outpouring of fear, self-loathing and unresolved anger. It comes out as extremism, insanity, racism, unbridled greed... and the attempt to control women.

It needs to be healed, not hated. And remember this: This is only the temporal truth. It is a mirage. We are all moving and we have all already arrived. You are one with your brother/sister in the light. Eliminate fear and contempt in yourself. Bring light into the dark places within. Forgive, not from your heights, but from your understanding of Oneness. AND speak the truth, speak the truth.

The Truth About Introverts, Hypnotists, and Modern Shamans.

Mythbusting truth about introverts: We love people. We are not shy. We are about giving and sharing. We just go about it differently. First, we go into the void, where peace lives and where we can gather gifts to bring back. Then, we share.

Mythbusting truths about hypnotists/ modern shamans: We are not about control; we are about empowerment and teamwork! And we don't do your work for you. Only you can do that. We just make it much, much easier for you, and with you. We do not tug on the other side of a rope. We tug with you, on the same side. And we help you realize there is no one and nothing tugging against you!

What we really do is gently escort our client into her center of guidance, where trance-formation occurs in trancendence. We are like midwives. We guide you to the place where you can rebirth yourself and we guide you through the process of that rebirthing.

Because so many of us are introverts, we are very, very skilled at going within and in doing deep spiritual change once we get there. So not only can we faciliate this, but we can teach you how to do it, too. This is a great joy for us and it’s a big part of our life purpose.

Abundance Triggers and Test Taking Success

As a spiritual coach and certified hypnotist, I often work with people who are facing tests. I help students develop the skills and confidence to excell in studies, pass tests, defend theses, interview for jobs, get jobs, express their gifts into the world, and even enjoy the process!

I have coached folks taking all kinds of tests: BAs, masters, doctorates, real estate broker, nurse aneasthesiologist and police officer exams, job interviews, auditions, the list goes on. Perhaps most dramatic was my military client. He came to me for mental toughness and endurance he knew he’d need to pass the grueling achieve Army Ranger test. He was going to need to do complex problem-solving on very little sleep and food, while performing incredibly hard physical tasks for weeks. He wanted to pass the test, but more than that, he wanted to be a leader and to help other young men find their strength. He wanted to remember that he was not alone, and to learn to tap into spiritual resouces.

All of us who take tests, which is to say everybody (are we not all learners?) share to some degree or other the erroneous belief in separation from Source. As we prepare for test-taking, we do plenty of nitty-gritty work with study and test-taking techniques. But the single most powerful lesson any one of us can learn is that we are loved and supported beyond measure.

When we know this, we can relax and much more easily access factual information from the brain and infinite information stored in the collective mind. We can call upon univeral energy to supply us with what we need, even in extreme situations like Ranger school, health, or financial challenges or other life changes when we may be severely tested.

How do we remember and access the support that is there for us? Abundance Triggers! Whether or you are curently involved in formal education, or are facing a metaphorical test of some kind, ask yourself, "What am I learning? What gifts and strengths would I like to develop in order to succeed? "

How could tapping into reserves of inner knowing help you? What visual, auditory and feeling cues could you give yourself to instantly shift yourself into confidence? As you read and explore the self-discovery exercises in Abundance Triggers, you’ll develop a toolbox that you can take with you into tests of any kind.

As you learn to identify and use your triggers, you will find it easier to maintain your peace, composure and confidence. You will learn the skills to rise up, surprise yourself and inspire others by your example. In so doing, you will become a living light to others facing their own tests.
